Early orthodontic Intervention:
Active removable appliances
Active removable appliances are often made of acrylic and use wires or springs to exert pressure on the teeth or arch and to influence the growth and structure of the jaw. The appliance will need frequent adjustments to keep moving the teeth.
As the appearance of your teeth improves, you’ll also be able to properly clean and take care of your teeth, reducing the risk of dental decay and gum disease. Meet with Dr Chi Nguyen today to discuss your orthodontic options. Active removable appliances are custom made with our local laboratory. Your child will get to choose the colour of their appliance with many options available, including pictures and sparkles!
Myobrace appliances are becoming increasing popular as a means for correcting parafunction habits. Some habits, related to ‘misuse’ of the mouth and jaw, can lead to crooked teeth, and these habits can start early. Things like thumb sucking, or using a dummy (pacifier) as a baby, can lead to the teeth and mouth structure developing incorrectly.
Sometimes, problems like allergies, asthma or enlarged adenoids, can lead to open mouth breathing, which again, over time, changes jaw development, and the subsequent alignment of teeth.
These habits are known to effect jaw development and growth and subsequently effect tooth positioning.
Research has shown that early diagnosis of these habits along with early intervention is highly effective in correcting and improving jaw development. This devise will help facilitate optimal upper and lower jaw relationship as growth continues, as it aims to retrain muscles used to eat, swallow, drink and talk.
This appliance is used whilst the patient has primary and mixed dentition. Throughout the duration of the treatment, we will work closely with you and your child to ensure that the best outcome is achieved. Early detection is key, so patients can begin treatment as early as four years old as it unlocks natural growth and development, preventing braces or teeth extraction in the future.
Braces (Fixed Orthodontic Treatment)
Ceramic braces use clear or tooth-coloured – rather than metal – brackets which blend to the teeth, making them less noticeable than metal braces. They are a popular choice for those wanting a more invisible fixed orthodontic treatment.
Metal braces are the traditional type of braces, with metal brackets attached to the teeth and metal wires connecting each bracket. Due to their sturdy nature, they are very useful for complex tooth repositioning.
Short-term are either ceramic or metal and are used predominantly to align the front top and bottom teeth, and as the name implies, the braces are in place for a shorter time (around six months) compared to conventional braces (two years or more).
A virtually invisible treatment that uses an innovative approach to effectively straighten teeth. Invisalign uses SMARTForce Technology to create a series of custom-made removable trays for you and only you. The trays are virtually invisible due to the plastic used so your teeth straightening practices will fly under the radar. Wear the trays over your teeth to gradually move them into the ideal position over time and see your smile transform!
