The end of 2020 will be here before we know it and many Private Health Funds start a new year of dental entitlements in January. You have until December 31st, 2020 to make the most of this calendar years entitlements. During this year and the Covid-19 pandemic, many dental visits have been delayed. REGULAR USE OF YOUR DENTAL BENEFITS
Make the most out of your dental benefits before they expire and utilise your insurance policy to its potential, so you do not spend all year paying for your benefits that you do not use. It is important to find a little “YOU” time. We have had patients in the past that have paid for their private health insurance throughout the year and forgot to use them.
Using your dental benefits before they expire can help you avoid serious dental concerns further down the track. Having a dental examination, professional teeth cleaning and routine radiographs can reveal concerns such as dental decay (cavities), gum concerns such as gingivitis and even oral cancer. With regular dental examinations, the dental practitioner can diagnose and allow for planning of possible early intervention/ prevention strategies and detect problems before they become bigger issues.
HOW DOES HEALTH INSURANCE WORK?
Each Private Health Fund is different, and each policy is different. Health funds have two categories in relation to dental cover, General Dental and Major Dental.
General Dental coverage allows you to claim and receive a rebate on treatments such as examinations, radiographs, scale and cleans, fillings and simple tooth extractions.
Major Dental coverage usually covers major treatments such as root canals, surgical extractions, porcelain crowns, porcelain veneers, orthodontics, and dental implants
HOW DO YOUR BENEFITS WORK FOR YOU?
All policies are different. Generally, health funds allow each person a dental examination and professional clean every six months and a yearly limit on treatments such a general and major dentistry. At the end of the calendar year your policy recharges, benefits do not roll over if they have not been used.
